Twickenham Sea Cadets is embarking on the most ambitious refurbishment of our premises in more than 75 years and we need your help!
What are we doing? Securing the Unit’s future for the rest of the century and in to 2100
Twickenham Sea Cadets is embarking on the most ambitious refurbishment of our premises in our history, so that we can continue to deliver the best cadet experience in the country for the rest of the 21st century and beyond.
Twickenham Sea Cadets is a thriving youth organisation with a long and storied history of supporting young people into responsible adulthood, by giving them unrivalled opportunities to take part in activities and learn skills that are not available to them through any other local group.
Why are we doing it? Our Main Building is at the centre of all we do and it needs critical refurbishment
The Main Building roof is degrading at pace and we now need to replace it, undertake structural works to install the new roof, and replace the single-pane windows and doors to improve the building's energy efficiency and environmental footprint.
How are we going to deliver the project?
We have worked with architects, structural engineers, and quantity surveyors over the past 4 years to develop a plan to refurbish the building. We received planning permission in December 2024 and, as of August 2025, we have final approval that we have fulfilled our pre-commencement planning conditions.
Our architects will manage the project to ensure we deliver it within budget and to the standards required.
What will it cost and how are we raising the money?
The project is estimated to cost more than £650,000.
The great news is that we have received commitment for approximately £400,000 in funding to date from a range of grant-giving organisations, including London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, the Marine Society and Sea Cadets, Bernard Sunley Foundation, and The Gosling Foundation.
We are working with a professional fundraising organisation that have so far written eight grant applications for us with a total value of £100,000 - these were submitted to the relevant organisations in July 2025. The fundraisers will write another seventeen applications for us.
What do we need from you?
We know how important Twickenham Sea Cadets is to our young people and our local community. Now, we need your support!
We’re aiming to raise £15,000 through this Crowdfunder; we hope to receive some match funding alongside this target.
The funds we raise will help demonstrate to other grant-giving organisations that we are fully committed to this project.
How will your donation to our project help Twickenham Sea Cadets?
Project Saumarez 2100 will deliver a fit-for-purpose building that the Charity can operate from to continue providing an outstanding cadet experience.
The Main Building was constructed in the late 1940s and early 1950s; this project aims to secure its future for at least as long again, meaning our Charity and all the other local community groups who use it have a safe and modern space to use for generations to come.
Any donation is greatly appreciated!
