Aim

Help to elect Sanne Dijkstra-Downie as the Liberal Democrat MSP for Edinburgh Northern in the 2026 Scottish Parliamentary Elections.

Hello, I’m Sanne Dijkstra-Downie.

Thank you to everyone who supported our first Crowdfunder. Because of you, we were able to start building a strong, visible Liberal Democrat campaign in Edinburgh Northern, one rooted in our community and focused on listening to voters. This page is about taking that work to the next level.

I’m standing to be your Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP for Edinburgh Northern at the upcoming Scottish Parliament election, and I’m asking for your support once again so we can run the most effective campaign possible. Our goal is to raise £10,000 to fund the next phase of our campaign and make sure our message reaches every corner of the constituency.

Running a serious parliamentary campaign is expensive, especially in a constituency with over 60,000 voters. Reaching people takes time, organisation, and resources. Every leaflet printed, every delivery organised, every digital advert placed and every volunteer session coordinated comes with a cost. While our first campaign allowed us to get started, the reality is that to stay competitive, and to win, we need to do more.

This second Crowdfunder will help cover the core costs of a full-scale election campaign, including:

  • Printing and delivering thousands of leaflets so voters know who I am, what I stand for, and how the Liberal Democrats can deliver real change.

  • Coordinating and supporting our incredible volunteer team, ensuring they have the materials and infrastructure needed to knock doors and speak to voters across the constituency

  • Running a strong digital campaign, particularly to engage younger voters and those who feel increasingly disconnected from politics

  • Targeting resources effectively so we can focus on the streets and communities where our message can make the biggest difference

I’m standing because after almost 20 years in government, the SNP have run out of ideas. Week after week, I hear the same frustrations on the doorstep about NHS waiting times, the cost of living and an education system that isn’t delivering for our young people. People feel let down and they’re right to demand better.

Edinburgh Northern needs an MSP who understands the urgent need for new and expanded school capacity and who has a proven record of standing up against cuts in our classrooms that risk leaving children behind. Our young people deserve properly funded schools, smaller class sizes, and the support they need to thrive.

Our community needs an MSP who understands how long people are waiting for NHS care. Someone who will stand up for our local health services and who will work tirelessly at Holyrood to make sure that our needs are met.

We need an MSP who understands the real impact of the cost of living crisis on families, renters, students and pensioners across our community. From rising rents and energy bills to the everyday cost of food and transport, too many people are being stretched to breaking point. People are working hard, doing the right things but are still struggling to make ends meet. As your MSP I will fight for fairer energy costs, affordable housing, and practical support for those under pressure, and I will work tirelessly to ensure that no one in Edinburgh is left behind as prices continue to rise.

The choice for us in Edinburgh Northern is clear.

We either continue to allow ourselves to be taken advantage of by a failing system and an SNP government who takes us for granted, or we elect an MSP committed to tackling the issues that effect us day-to-day.
