SANDWELL UNIT 486 OF THE SEA CADET CORPS

Your local Sandwell Sea Cadets need your help!

Our 20-year-old minibus is no longer roadworthy and must be scrapped. We are raising money towards the cost of a new(er) one.

What we do?

Taken from Home - Sea Cadets Sandwell (sea-cadets.org)

At Sandwell we aim to give young people an experience that will help them grow into the person they want to be in a safe and friendly environment. Through various activities and adventures, we learn teamwork, respect, loyalty, self-confidence, commitment, self-discipline, honesty and how to be the best version of ourselves.

We offer a range of different activities from sailing, windsurfing and powerboating - to rock climbing, camping, and music - plus, so much more! At Sandwell you are also able to gain different qualifications that you can take with you once you leave Sea Cadets!

What does this mean?

In real terms, we give local - sometimes disadvantaged - children, the opportunity to learn new skills, behaviours, make friends for life and earn qualifications whilst doing it. Importantly, we teach water safety.

We currently have growing cadet base at Sandwell, with 3 – 4 cadets joining each month.

Where are we?

The unit is led by a team of volunteers. We are based at The Old Caretakers House, within the Ormiston Forge grounds in Cradley Heath. Our sailing activities take place at Swan Pool, Sandwell Valley as well as the opportunity to take part in sailing regattas in coastal towns such as Weymouth.

The minibus is fundamental to access sailing activities. It provides transport up to three times a week to Swan Pool for up to 12 children, as well as extended trips. For some children, this is the only holiday they get.

What do we need?

A new minibus! As a charity organisation, with a low monthly fee to ensure sea cadets is accessible all, we don’t have the funds to purchase a new bus.

Please donate to our crowd funder here. No amount too small, your contribution will make a huge difference!
