Aim

'Sand & Vision', a participatory photography and music training programme for the Saharawi Refugee Community in SW Algeria.

In October 2017 Olive Branch Arts will be returning to the Saharawi Refugee Camps in SW Algeria to run our photography and music training programme ‘Sand and Vision’. By building visual storytelling and creative composition skills through workshops the stories of young refugees will be able to be seen and heard by a new audience, both through an exhibition and performance in the refugee camps and inclusion in the next Olive Branch book (due 2018/19).

By offering participants a safe place to come together and learn new skills we aim to develop confidence in young refugees to enable them to visually and aurally document their own stories thereby reducing isolation of a remote refugee community through the sharing of photography and music.

The aim of our project is to take the young people out of their everyday lives & offer some respite from an extremely difficult & challenging living environment. Our engagement shows them the outside world is interested and aware of their story and gives them a creative outlet to process their political and social experience. The Saharawi strongly believe in the power of art & culture as a means of bringing their plight to an international audience, our projects arm them with the tools and skills they need to do this.

Please show solidarity with the Saharawi by supporting our project and giving voice to a forgotten people. Every reward over £15  gets you a ticket to our cabaret fundraiser on the 17th September at Brasserie Toulouse Lautrec in Kennington from 6.30pm.

We look forward to seeing you then, but please remember if you can't make the 17th you can still donate.

The Olive Branch Arts team work as volunteers, every penny raised goes directly to the cost of running the project
