New stretch target
If we manage to exceed our initial target of £2000, we would love to put any additional funds towards our winter feed. Just like every winter, this time of the year is extremely worrying for us.
Our total weekly feed costs are £1500 which can double in winter (this excludes other expenses such as bills for electricity, water, rent, vet bills and more).
Since we don't receive any government funding, we purely rely on the generosity of people like you.
Who Are We?
We are Farm Animal Rescue Sanctuary aka FARS, a UK sanctuary in Warwickshire and home to nearly 500 rescued farm animals!
Why are we raising funds?
We received many lovely messages from people who would have loved to come and support us at our November Open Day event but, for whatever reason, weren’t able to.
Many of you have been asking how else you can help and support us. We had a good think about what our sanctuary needs the most and came to a very easy decision - Each year we battle the same problem that is almost impossible to beat - MUD! As we all know, the British winter can present a wide variety of weather conditions; from gales and driving rain to hard frosts and snow. Mud on top of it all only makes everything harder. It makes it extremely difficult for the animals and us to walk on but it also slows our work right down, making us less productive.
What are we raising money for?
We want to buy mud control tiles to improve the conditions and make the mud more manageable. Not only would this be easier for us operating the sanctuary but also for our many residents who, when standing in the mud, can attract bacteria and gain hoof infections. Additionally, our elderly residents that suffer with arthritis find walking through the muddy areas especially difficult.
It all depends on how much we are able to, raise but we would like to prioritise the most affected areas which are those with high level of foot traffic such as gateways, fronts of shelters, and around water and hay feeders.
The cost of one tile is £7.20 and we are hoping to raise £2,000 which at £28.80 per square metre will allow us to buy tiles enough for 70 square metres.
