The project is to level, grade and improve the grass coverage of the pitch giving a new sustainable playing surface for training and matches
We are Saltash RFC a local community rugby club that is growing in size with our town. We are home to two men’s and a women’s senior teams, a youth set up with teams of every age from under six to 18 years, an occasional vets team and walking rugby. We are also home to the Tamar Trotters running club.
We are crowdfunding to raise money for pitch improvements. Over recent years our pitch has seen its usage increase greatly. This means its condition has deteriorated to a point where it is becoming more difficult to maintain. During the poor weather the pitch has to be put out of bounds, impacting not only game days but also resulting in increased cancellations of training nights. This has a negative impact on all our teams, especially the age grade sections which rely heavily on the facility for training in the week.

In the past we have struggled to maintain the pitch, taking short term remedial actions to resolve issues as they occur. This usually means the pitch being out of bounds for a period of time, affecting all our teams During the winter it becomes waterlogged and in spring the ground can be baked hard, with no grass coverage making it unsafe.

The work is being carried out by a contractor who specialises in sports pitches and is affiliated with the Ground Management Association and Cornish RFU.

The Money raised will be spent on the main playing area of the pitch. If we manage to raise more than needed for the initial work then the outlying areas and the stand will be improved as well

The pitch improvement will enable us as a club to maintain and grow our current progress, providing a great facility all year round for our community. Not only will it give our players a facility they deserve but hopefully allow us to attract games from the Cornish RFU and other local organisations, allowing the rest of the county and beyond see what a great club we are.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
