Aim: We are raising funds to build a memorial worthy of the bravery of Salford's volunteers who fought for democracy and against fascism in Spain

The Salford International Brigade Memorial Group is dedicated to creating a lasting tribute to the courageous volunteers from the City of Salford who travelled to Spain to fight fascism and defend democracy. This memorial will honour their bravery and sacrifice, serving as a permanent reminder for generations to come.

We have identified 30 volunteers from Salford, including nine who were killed in action and Molly Murphy, who served as medical staff. These individuals' stories are a testament to their commitment to justice and freedom.

The creation of this memorial, along with the historical work behind it, will provide educational opportunities to engage with children and communities in Salford about the importance of democracy, tolerance, community and solidarity. The memorial itself will be a powerful symbol and a tangible focal point to celebrate freedom.

Our campaign is led by representatives from the Salford Trades Union Council, the International Brigade Memorial Trust, and the Working Class Movement Library. Together, we aim to bring this vision to life and ensure that the legacy of these volunteers is never forgotten.

Join us in making this memorial a reality. Your support will help us honour the past and inspire future generations.
