Aim

We are crowdfunding to improve our facilities and purchase new equipment to support our expanding junior and female cricket sections.

Who are we?

Ryhope Cricket Club is a volunteer-run community sports club based in Sunderland and proudly celebrating its 150th year. We provide opportunities for people of all ages to participate in cricket, physical activity and volunteering within a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment. The club currently supports over 60 junior players, multiple senior teams and is entering an exciting new chapter with the development of our female section. Beyond cricket, we are committed to helping young people develop confidence, resilience, leadership and life skills. We believe sport can transform lives and strengthen communities, particularly in areas facing social and economic challenges.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Our club has become a victim of its own success. Participation has grown significantly in recent years, particularly among children, young people, girls and women, but our facilities and equipment have not kept pace with demand. We are crowdfunding to improve our changing facilities, increase storage capacity and purchase new equipment to support our expanding junior and female sections. We also want to develop Ryhope Cricket Club into a wider community hub, offering opportunities for fitness, volunteering and personal development. This investment will help ensure we can continue to provide high-quality experiences and opportunities for current and future generations. Sport England's Movement Fund supports projects that help inactive people become active, keeps people active and increases activity levels.

If we raise £9150 with your help, Sport England will provide another £9150 on top.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Funds raised will be used to improve facilities and resources across the club. This includes upgrading changing rooms to create more inclusive spaces for women and girls, increasing secure storage capacity and purchasing a new cabin for refreshments. We will also be purchasing strength and conditioning equipment suitable for different age groups.

Every pound raised will be reinvested directly into improving opportunities for local people and ensuring the club remains sustainable for years to come.

Community impact

This project will benefit hundreds of people across Ryhope and the surrounding area. It will provide more opportunities for children and young people to be active, develop life skills and build lasting friendships in a safe environment. Improved facilities will help remove barriers for women and girls, supporting greater participation in sport. The project will also strengthen community connections by creating a more welcoming space for families, volunteers and local residents. Through sport, fitness activities and volunteering opportunities, we aim to improve physical health, mental wellbeing and social inclusion while creating a stronger, healthier and more connected community.
