Running the Tonbridge Half Marathon on 9/10/22

Aim

We are running to help keep our little village school warm and dry this winter!

On 9th October, we are donning our trainers and running the Tonbridge half marathon. Having decided back in May this would be a fine autumn challenge, we did not consider that it was a mere 5 weeks after the summer holidays. And so training began… at week 10 of the training schedule! 

We originally thought we would run “for the fun of it” (ha!), but as the autumnal weather has descended and we continue to be bombarded by headlines of the energy crisis, we reconsidered this. Funding for schools is not rising in line with the inflationary environment we are living in. This year’s increase in school budgets from central government does not even cover the promised teacher salary increases. Against this backdrop, our village school looks ahead to a challenging winter - compounded by the fact that the school roof has struggled in the first few weeks of term following heavy rain.

And so, we are now running to keep our school warm and dry this winter! We are raising under the Penshurst School PTA banner to support the school budget. While we will not be able to raise enough to cover the lot, we would be grateful for absolutely anything you can afford to spare. We really do understand that everyone is squeezed by their own home bills and it really is a case of every little helps.
