Food for Thought started up during the pandemic of 2020. As restrictions lifted, a need was identified within the community for further help.
The idea grew into a hub within the community reducing food waste by getting it to people who could use it, people who needed it and others that could turn it into meals for others to have.
A partnership was developed with Perth and Kinross Council to enable a referal system for emergency food relief and help should people require that also.
They have relied solely on funding and donations in the last 4 years but are now finding the funding pots are running a bit empty or funders will not fund for multiple years.
Food for Thought needs help to pay for rent, electricity, internet, pest control so that it can continue to provide assistance to the people of Alyth and surrounding areas.
During the school holidays they run a program titled D.i.y Lunch that provides a bag of ingredients to families with children to ensure the children have a meal each day when not in school while also relieving the financial burden on families to provide an extra meal that they would have had at school.
Halloween projects in the past have allowed children to trick or treat in a safe space while receiving treats
Children have written letters to santa and posted it in their mail box and recieved a personalised hand written reply along with a selection box and a gift
All these projects and more are done by volunteers and are completely free of charge
Everyone should have the right to access food without barriers and restrictions and Food for Thought allows people to do that while directing people to places they can get further help and assistance. It needs your help to stay open
