River Teign Rowing Club (RTRC), established in 1994, is based in the heart of Teignmouth and has nearly 350 members. The club provides rowing opportunities for fixed and sliding seat rowing across a range of disciplines with crews of between one and six rowers.
The club encourages participation from novice, development, social and competitive rowers and has a strong inclusive, team-based learning culture. There is also a key emphasis on enhancing the wellbeing and fitness of all its members with this commitment extending to juniors (U14 and U16) as well as our Supervets and Masters (Over 50 and over 60).
We are looking to raise funds for a new wooden gig and two local charities, Wet Wheels Torbay, and Children's Hospice South West to support the fabulous work they do.
We plan to row approximately 100km across the channel from Dartmouth to Guernsey. Those taking part in the row will be fully funding their own row, and aim to raise as much money as possible with your support for the chosen local charities and the club.
Our club is passionately dedicated to the sport of rowing, fostering community spirit and promoting physical and mental wellbeing through various rowing activities and events.
In recent years we have had a well supported winter development crew programme, which has allowed people with no rowing experience to join the club and learn about rowing with a number of development crew rowers starting to race in regattas by the end of their programme. The programme has brought in over 50 new rowers to the club across all classes of boats, with many joining the Gig section, therefore increasing workload and wear and tear to our existing boats.
In 2024 the club has received funding for a learn to row programme, which has already enabled people from across the local community to experience the joy of rowing.
We are a competitive club and our current wooden (racing) gigs are ageing. Therefore, it is time for us to raise funds for a new wooden gig, and support our local community.
The money raised will enable the RTRC to purchase a new wooden gig, oars, cover and trailer alongside raising money for two local charities Wet Wheels and Children's Hospice South West.
A new gig will enable more people to become involved in RTRC.
Our aim is to reach out to everyone within our local community as is important to our club to enable individuals to experience the 'blue space' available to us within our local area base of Teignmouth.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
2. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
3. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
