Aim

Help us build a Climate Classroom: An inclusive and inspirational outdoor learning and play space replacing the old condemned play equipment

Our aim is to create a CLIMATE CLASSROOM: An inclusive and inspirational outdoor learning and play space.

The Climate Classroom will be designed for social, emotional, and sensory wellbeing and provide a learning setting for environmental education, which is a core part of the school's curriculum.

This area will provide our children with a space for both physical play and to engage with the subject of the environment: how to care for it and to understand their responsibilities for it. We hope this early knowledge and understanding will result in the children growing up to be environmentally aware, good citizens of the planet, with a passion for actively preventing climate change. The Climate Classroom will be developed for the current age groups and for all abilities at our school and in the wider community.

The current 'adventure playground' at our school has been condemned. Sadly, it has been taped up for two years due to the old age, poor condition of the equipment and because it is unsuitable for all of our infant school sized children and their varying abilities. The condemned area was originally built for older children making it inaccessible for a large proportion of our current pupils, and was focussed only on physical play.

We are raising money to reclaim this area for a new outdoor Climate Classroom.

We will use the money towards clearing the condemned equipment.  Where possible, we will salvage and re-use the equipment.

We will then develop and install an accessible and exciting new outdoor Climate Classroom. This will combine space for learning and imaginative, sensory, social and physical play - a place for the children to be curious, learn and care about their world and our responsibility for it.

In addition to the school having access to this wonderful Climate Classroom, it will also be available for use by Sunflower Club.  Sunflower Club is a charity based within the school site, providing wrap-around care (before and after school club) and school holiday activities.  This includes delivering funded holiday activities for local disadvantaged families.

About our school

Our school works hard to build positive community relationships, to enable all of the children to thrive and progress. The school particularly prides itself on their way of achieving this - with empathy, kindness and respect.

The children are encouraged to question their learning, generate their own lines of inquiry and maintain a strong sense of curiosity about the world around them.

The teaching techniques also encourage responsibility, empathy, compassion and acceptance through the use of play, drama and other meaningful learning experiences.

Who are we?

We are Recreation Road Infant School Parent and Teachers Association (PTA).  We are a registered charity (no. 800436) which raises funds to supplement the learning resources for pupils at the school. The PTA is actively raising funds through the voluntary efforts of parents, carers, school staff and the children.

Currently all funds are going towards the new Climate Classroom.

The Covid-19 pandemic put an abrupt stop to our face-to-face fundraising opportunities.  However, these are slowly ramping back up and recent fundraising has included cake sales, a Christmas hamper raffle, a sponsored sports activity by the children and a 'New to you' Facebook selling page.  We are planning the return of our school summer fete, which was cancelled in 2020 and 2021.

Please back our project

You can choose a donation value to suit your budget.

Or, if you wish, as a thank you for donating to our project, you can select one of the rewards kindly donated (Apologies if you're donating from far away, most of the rewards are redeemable within the school's local area only).

Don't miss your chance to support us, this site is only live until Tuesday 12th April at 12noon.

The Climate Classroom project is costing LOTS more than the target on this page, therefore if we can exceed this amount we will speed up the delivery of the new equipment being installed.  Face to face fundraising will continue to take place at school, as and when the pandemic allows it to.

A HUGE THANK YOU

from all of us in the PTA and at the school!

We would also like to publicly thank Minors & Brady on Unthank Road.  They generously donated their amazing photographer, Shah, for the video clip and photos of the school that we have used on this page.   Thanks Shah!!

'The small print'

  • Please note - We do not yet have a confirmed plan for the area and its equipment, therefore all images are to provide an indication only.
  • This Crowdfunder page is being managed by a member of the school PTA.  Therefore please bear with me if I don't get back to you in super speed regarding any rewards that you select or queries you ask.  I will do my best to keep you updated asap, but with a 'day job', plus two young children, sometimes they will take my attention first.  Thank you for patience and for your very kind and generous donation.  :-)
