Roxanne & Steph is fundraising for
Reseed
Charity No. 1197149

£2,160
We've decided to take on a ridiculous challenge – a half iron man '70.3' in Maine, USA on July 28th – that is currently seeming almost impossible. Steph and Rox have been friends since they first met at a wine warehouse job about 10 years ago. Then housemates (with and without Jake!), now long distance friends since Steph moved to Canada and Rox to Sierra Leone.
The "70.3" refers to the total distance in miles (113.0 km) covered in the race, consisting of a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim, a 56-mile (90 km) bike ride, and a 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run. There is no doubt the 70.3 in Maine is going to be really tough.
As part of our challenge (and motivation to do loads more training!), we are raising funds for Reseed, the charity Rox works for in Sierra Leone and that Steph has been supporting since it was founded in 2021.
Reseed focuses on creating opportunities, livelihoods and employment for people, especially women, in Sierra Leone - allowing them to generate much-needed income for themselves and their families.
Together with your help, our fundraising efforts will create real, lasting change and tackle poverty at the core in Sierra Leone.
Beyond our personal connections to Reseed, we're also choosing to fundraise for Reseed as they are not like other international charities - they do things a bit differently. As a small and mostly local team, they work in an agile, iterative and collaborative way to make sure their projects have a truly lasting impact on individuals and their wider communities.
They don't want to waste money, resources or time on projects that don’t tackle the root cause, projects that only offer a short-term solution or projects that have reached thousands but haven’t really helped anybody.
They adapt and evolve our programmes to ensure they don’t just sound good, but actually do good. They have a really strong local team that understand the local context and listen and respond to the needs of those we want to support.
Any amount you can support with is greatly appreciated, thank you so much in advance.
