Two members of the Rotherham Friends of the International Brigade will be doing a 50 mile walk to raise funds for a permanent memorial.
Rotherham Friends of the International Brigade are raising money for a permanent memorial to the 4 Rotherham volunteers who fought for democracy in the International Brigade in the Spanish Civil War between 1936-1939.
Eastwood-born Geoffrey Allstopp was killed in action at Caspe in 1938. He deserves a memorial as do the other Rotherham volunteers Tommy James, Joe Maiden and Chris Smith.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War and in September 2 members of our group (Jamie Thompson and Robin Symonds) will be undertaking an 80km (50 mile) walk from Rotherham to Sheffield to Barnsley to Doncaster and back to Rotherham in 24 hours.
Please support their effort and help us raise funds to honour the memory of the Rotherham brigaders and keep alive the history of the International Brigade and the fight for democracy. No Pasaran!
