I'm walking 101 miles, to join the chorus that domestic abuse must stop, to reach out to victims, and to challenge churches.
It’s time for another Walk!
Yes! My eighth long-distance walk in support of Restored.
This time it’s 101 miles from 22nd – 31st August.
Restored is a Christian charity that supports female victims of domestic abuse and trains churches to become safe places for victim-survivors. It’s a small charity that punches way above its weight. They do Stirling work in:

Domestic abuse is a hugely serious problem that destroys lives, sometimes literally, when women and children are murdered by the man who was supposed to have been their dearest love and closest ally. The impact of domestic abuse reaches all corners of society with destructive reverberations in education and careers; in unemployment and homelessness; in physical and mental health; in delinquency, substance abuse and exploitation, and costing the tax payer around £66b annually (Home Office: The economic and social costs of domestic abuse). Globally, 1 in 3 women experiences violence, mostly domestic violence, simply because they are women, while in this country 1 in 4 women experiences domestic abuse. Shockingly, this statistic of 1 in 4 also applies within the church! (https://www.restored-uk.org/what-we-do/advocacy/churches-too/)
My sponsored walks are part of my attempt to join in the chorus that this must stop; to reach out to victims and to challenge churches.
This year I’m combining two ‘short’ walks to make one long one and they are in the heart of the country where the Industrial Revolution began with its massive, global consequences.
The two walks are the Derwent Heritage Way in Derbyshire and the Cuckoo Way that follows the Chesterfield Canal in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Our route starts at Shardlow where the Derwent meets the Trent, and ends at Weststocks where the Chesterfield Canal meets the Trent. The walk will take us through some places that are very significant in our British heritage.
I’ll attempt to write a daily blog and with it some theological musings which will be posted on www.cadanortheast.org, and I'll post some updates on this page too. These will be along the lines of our heritage and what that has to do with the subject of domestic abuse…….mmm…..keep an eye on the website!
Please take time to learn more about the subject, and please also consider sponsoring me on my eighth walk on behalf of the abused.
Thank you!
