Rose: A Short Film

Synopsis

Rose is a grounded and moving short film about a single mother struggling to balance the prospect of eviction whilst hiding her fears from her daughter. Her regular customer, Tony, also grieves the loss of his late wife and the two help each other deal with their respective situations.

Premise

A warm and welcoming cafe, home for quiet laughter and sips between smiles. A small apartment whose decorator stands under four feet tall. The storm follows Rose everywhere. Amidst the storm, our titular protagonist remains benevolent, carving out moments for teaching, for listening and for giving. An eviction is imminent, and the fate of herself and her daughter is firmly in her hands. Despite this, the connection with cafe-regular Tony remains strong and meaningful... until it is broken.

From the Director

I’m Nathaniel, the director of ‘Rose’. To me, this is a film which is, above all else, about selflessness. We wanted to explore the struggles and hardships of life. How somewhere in the middle, amidst the pain, there is usually a level of selfless humanity which can bring us together. For our crowdfunder, it is really important for us to make things seem like a collaborative effort between the crew and you. By supporting us, you’ll be actively participating in the production and quality of our final product. We’ll be using the funds to secure the best locations to reinforce our story narrative, props and costumes for authenticity, and for a talented cast of actors who will bring our characters to life. Along with helping to make our vision a reality, you’ll have access to a range of perks that correlate to the amount you donate. The team at Draft 7 Studios has big dreams and aspirations, including taking Rose to festivals as well as pursuing future endeavours beyond university.

From the Producer

Having guided this project from its inception over two months ago, I have now put together a budget that will help us bring the story to life. Contributing financially is the most direct way to support our short film. However, if you aren’t able to collaborate with us in this way, sharing our social media pages is an impactful way to help us reach our crowdfunding goal. The more people who see our project, the greater the visibility of our crowdfunding campaign and the chances of raising sufficient funds to fulfil our budget. The budget has been broken down into key departments, and as Rose is a character-centred story, our largest spending sector is cast/talent, followed by locations. I'm so excited to collaborate with our incredibly talented crew and see where this film takes our early film careers.

This film's purpose is to shed light on the struggles of every day people so they can know that they are not invisible. I wrote this script because after looking at the situations currently faced by real people in the UK, it was only right to represent them in a narrative-based short film.
