We are replacing our old green tin roof covering with modern composite tiles, reinforcing the joists and installing 22 solar panels
Cobham Avorians is an amateur sports club, nestled in the Burhill Estate in Cobham, Surrey, opposite Notre Dame School. Originally formed in 1928 by local landowner Edward James Avory, we moved to Convent Lane in 1948. A cricket club first and foremost, we have in recent years added tennis, petanque, stoolball and walking cricket to create a genuine, all around, community sports facility, in regular use by people aged 5 to 80+.
The club is run entirely by volunteers and is registered with HMRC as a not-for-profit Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC).
As part of our commitment to a greener, more sustainable future we have been successful in securing funding for solar panels to go on the rear of the clubhouse roof. Unfortunately though, the timber-framed clubhouse was built in 1948 and the existing green tin roof was installed in the 1970s, so our structural survey has mandated that in order to support the new solar panels, the roof will need to be replaced and the existing timber joists reinforced, at a total cost of around £55,000.

We have been successful in securing some grant funding and are now looking to raise £24,000 from alternative sources, including from this Crowdfunder campaign! Monies raised will be used to pay for this exciting green initiative.

Our existing, very tired, green tin roof
Cobham Avorians Sports Club is used by over 200 members of the local community from age 5 (our youngest cricket "All Stars" and tennis juniors) all the way through to 80+ (our senior Petanque players).

Watching cricket, with the BBQ ablaze!
From a small cricket club focused entirely on playing very high-level cricket since the 1950s, we have grown our membership (from 30-40 to 200+) and broadened our local community outreach considerably in the last 10-15 years, including facility-sharing arrangements with local schools and a Fireworks event attended by over 2000 local people.

Petanquers relaxing after a tough game!
Our green initiatives, as well as helping the environment, will also enable us to reduce our energy costs going forward, freeing up money for further improvements to a true community-based facility.

Friday night and the club is bouncing!
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
