We are the village hall in Burton, we provide spaces for a wide range of activities for people of all ages, interests and abilities. Our aims are to provide for the physical and mental wellbeing of our community by means of social activities, exercise and sports, educational classes and interest groups.
We are a small rural community with a large number of older people and people who live alone. We also have an increasing number of families with young children as new houses are being built in and around the village. The hall provides an easily accessible central location for activities for all ages, to help with children's growth and development and integration into the community, and to help address the disadvantages of isolation and loneliness for those of any age who live alone.
Our aim is to see if we can replace the existing old sheet metal panels with solar-integrated panels to provide both a new roof and to generate power to provide lighting and hot water in the hall, and for battery backup storage so that the hall can remain active as the community emergency hub in the event of a power outage affecting the village.
