I would like to pay back to the charity that helped me when I was a child, i suffered from Epilepsy and had an appointment every 6 months

by Philip Smith in Ramsgate, Kent, United Kingdom

I would like to organise a bake sale And a Sponsored motorcycle tour of the UK (KENT to GLASGOW )to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities.

I will not only be trying to raise money for this amazing charity via the Bake sale, but also a big part of the charity drive will be me doing a sponsored tour of the UK on my motorcycle, driving from Thanet in Kent to Glasgow on July 22/07/2024 and returning on 23/07/2024 to show my appreciation and gratitude for this charity.  I have chosen this charity, which is very close to my heart because they have helped my family and my friends, and the reason I want to pay it back is because it relies very heavily on donations to help put families in accommodation to be near their children who are being treated in hospital for various reasons.

If you aren’t aware of the services they provide, here is a list of a few things that they do to support families;

·       Sometimes, there may not be a room available in the Houses, so they also offer day passes which give families the opportunity to rest, shower, cook and just enjoy some family time together for a while being away from the hospital (a space where they can recharge and relax a bit)

·       Families staying at Ronald McDonald houses  can cook, play, rest and be together, all the time knowing that they are only moments away from their child in hospital. The rooms they provide have a direct phoneline to the ward that the child is staying in. They  also run activities so families and children staying with them can have a break away from the hospital ward.

·       They provide toys and spaces where children can play (somewhere that’s safe and away from the hospital ward

·       They accommodation they have provides communal areas where families can rest and relax just moments away from the ward.

·       Kitchens in which families can gather and meet other parents who are experiencing a similar situation with their child, offering an opportunity for group support.

On average the charity helps save families over £1200 in out-of-pocket accommodation and travel expenses every single year, whilst caring for a sick child.
