Help Us Protect the Heart of Romney Marsh
The Romney Marsh Community Hub has always been more than just a charity for the over 50’s living on Romney Marsh —
it’s the beating heart of our community.
It’s where:
- Someone who feels lonely finds a friendly face.
- A hot lunch becomes the highlight of someone’s week.
- Families caring for loved ones with dementia find understanding and relief.
- Volunteers become lifelines — and strangers become friends.
For so many, the Hub isn’t just a place, it’s home, hope, and human connection.
This place matters deeply to the people of Romney Marsh.
The Romney Marsh Community Hub: Something for Everyone
From traditional day support to high-energy Dance Fit, the Romney Marsh Community Hub offers a wide choice of activities.
Three days a week, we provide a traditional day support service, welcoming clients from their own homes for a variety of activities and a freshly cooked two-course lunch. Around this core service, we’ve expanded our offer to reflect the wide range of needs and interests across Romney Marsh.
For those looking to stay active, we run an extensive fitness programme including seated exercise, seated Tai Chi, regular Tai Chi, Yoga, Pilates, Keep Fit, Zumba, Dance Fit, Legs, Bums and Tums, Line Dancing, and Salsa.
To keep minds engaged, we offer craft groups, a games club, an art group, a book group, creative writing sessions, and our popular Memory Lane sessions.
Over the past two years, we’ve also strengthened our peer support network, now offering specialist groups for people affected by stroke, arthritis, diabetes, cancer, dementia, bereavement, and for members of the ex-armed services community.
In October 2024, we launched the Marsh Bee Transport Service to help older residents reach essential medical appointments. The service already has over 300 members and has completed more than 1,000 return trips.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to open our Skills Hub in early 2026 (via targeted grant funding) — a space where people with practical skills such as plumbing, carpentry and sewing, can share their expertise through hands-on workshops.
Why We Need Your Help Now
Like many charities, we’ve faced soaring costs — from food and energy to wages — while our main grants and contracts have stayed the same or even decreased.
To keep our services running, we worked hard to become more self-sufficient. We opened new social enterprises, including Hub on the Beach, designed to generate vital income to support our community work.
It was working beautifully — until disaster struck.
The sudden closure of the neighbouring Coast Drive car park, to make way for new beach huts and a visitor centre, has dramatically reduced footfall. What was meant to be a short-term closure has now been extended into 2026, turning a thriving community café into a significant financial loss.
So far, we’ve lost almost £100,000 in revenue and have had to cancel key fundraising events. This unexpected blow has placed real financial strain on the services that so many people rely on every single day.
