Aim

The installation of safety nets at Southwick Leisure Centre such that roller hockey matches / training can be safely officiated and watched

Who are we?

We are the Brighton Stormers Roller Hockey Club, we have been around for over 30 years. We are partnering with Sport England and the British Inline Skater Hockey Association (BISHA) on this fund raising initiative. We can offer recreational, local, regional, national and even international opportunities.

Why are we crowdfunding?1790887901_1790887901197.png

Our sport was dealt a significant blow when the regional roller rink in Bisley, Surrey was closed early in 2025. Without a regional rink, the BISHA league has been seeking out sports halls in which to play league matches. Southwick (Brighton) is one of these halls and works well, with the exception of it not having any safety nets to protect officials and non-playing participants / spectators. This Crowdfund is to raise the money needed to equip the sports hall at Southwick with floor to ceiling safety netting. Our aim is for safer (and hopefully more) match days and training sessions.

The Sport England Movement Fund is supporting our project, they have pledged to match every £ we raise £ for £ up to our £6000 target.

How we’ll spend the money raised

All the money raised will be spent on the supply and installation of safety nets.

Community impact

Our club is working in partnership with Sport England, BISHA and Southdowns Leisure (the centre owners) on this project. By making the space more flexible, we hope it will enable more time for our sport, especially match days. This to the benefit of both our club and the wider South East roller hockey community. The early indications are good, with enthusiasm shown for the sport and recognition of the wider community benefits it brings to the centre and area. Southwick is a coastal town where there are localised areas of depravation, the positivity of having a league sport like ours being played locally has generated interest from the community. We really want this project to help expand that interest by encouraging more to come along and get active.

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!

4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
