Robot Mowers & Free Golf Club Membership at A&L GC

Aim
The golf club currently uses large diesel powered mowers. We aim to become carbon neutral by switching to robotic electric mowers.
Who are we?
We are Ashton & Lea Golf Club located in west Preston Lancashire. We are a friendly community minded golf club and welcome golfers of all abilities. We have a driving range and short game practice area. A major focus of the club is introducing new people to golf. An example of this is our Ladies Get into Golf scheme which has been successful in introducing over 100 ladies to golf with a large proportion joining the club and continuing to progress. We also have a developing junior membership with members as young as 8 years old enjoying their first experience of the course via the junior six's competitions.

Why are we crowdfunding?
Sport England have approved a grant to kickstart the replacement of our current diesel mowing equipment with modern electric robot mowers which will reduce significantly our carbon footprint. Also the use of these mowers in winter should enable the course to be open more often as they are a lot lighter than our existing equipment. This is because the ground conditions should be drier as a result of more regular grass cutting. In order to receive this grant we need to raise a further of £8,279 via our crowd funding campaign.

How we’ll spend the money raised
We will use the money raised to part fund the acquisition of 2 large robot mowers which will be utilised to mow approximately 20% of the golf course. Ultimately the club will be looking to purchase 7 of 8 of these mowers to mow 100% of the course. Each mower will cost us £8,600 each including annual maintenance. The club will be funding the charging stations and the GPS relay stations from within it's own resources. Your donation will help us to reduce our carbon footprint and by more regular winter mowing keep the golf course open to all users.

Community impact
Ashton & Lea Golf Club is the only major community sports facility in West Preston. We are open to membership from all sectors of the community and we have a large section of senior members who use the course on a daily basis. Our driving range enables anyone to practice their golf skills on a casual basis using the Top Tracer system. The club house is available for private functions and casual visitors including those using the Guild Wheel cycling facility.
