Aim

Elect Rob Callender & Shabd Pyari for the Royal Victoria ward in Newham 2026 local election!

We are standing in the May 2026 local elections because we believe the residents of Royal Victoria deserve a council that listens, acts, and delivers. As our community grows with new buildings, the challenges we face - from rising housing costs to overstretched infrastructure - will need local champions offering practical solutions and genuine accountability. This is needed both here in Royal Victoria and in the Newham council chamber.

Meet Your Candidates

Rob Callender

Rob is a theatre lighting technician and building manager who has lived in the Royal Docks area for years. A dedicated local campaigner, he served as a volunteer member of the Beckton and Royal Docks Community Assembly (now People Powered Places), where he helped prioritise projects that benefit our neighbourhood. Rob understands the struggles of private renters and leaseholders firsthand, being a private renter himself in a leasehold building. He is a strong advocate for safe, sustainable transport and has consistently fought against projects like the Silvertown Tunnel that threaten our air quality. He brings experience in infrastructure along with a deep commitment to making Newham more transparent and accountable. Rob is a part of the LGBTQ+ community and believes in true equality for all through equitable actions.

Shabd Pyari

Shabd is a social entrepreneur, mother of two, and a passionate community advocate with deep roots in Newham. Having experienced the pandemic's impact and the pressures on our local healthcare system, she is driven to ensure no resident is left behind. Shabd has represented bereaved families on national platforms, given hundreds of hours in community work, and is a tireless campaigner for better local services. She believes a council's primary duty is to care for its people, focusing on everyday issues, from fixing broken pavements to making sure our streets remain safe and clean, which makes a real difference to our lives.

Our Plan for Royal Victoria

  • Practical Action: We will push for real solutions for housing, parking, and transport that Royal Victoria needs. This includes pushing for rent controls, better recycling for flats & apartment buildings, and EV charging points that don't obstruct pavements.
  • Safer Areas: We believe everyone has the right to feel secure in their neighbourhood. We will take tougher action on crime and antisocial behaviour (ASB) by seeking to improve street lighting and working for a public health approach to safety, including improving the provision of community and youth facilities.
  • Leadership You Can Trust: It is time for a transparent and trusted council that delivers results, not just promises. We will ensure that developer funding (CIL/S106) is actually spent on the community facilities, youth services, and green spaces our ward desperately needs.

Why Your Support Matters

Unlike the major parties, our campaign is powered entirely by people like you. Your donation will help us:

  • Print and deliver leaflets to every home in Royal Victoria.
  • Reach more residents using targeted digital campaigning and community events.
  • Fund the critical materials needed to challenge the status quo.
  • Build a people-powered alternative that puts residents before developers.

Every contribution helps us provide the strong, independent voice that Royal Victoria has been missing. If you believe in a fairer, safer, and greener Newham, please support our campaign today.

Legal Information: Any donations not spent in this campaign will be used to fund future Green Party election campaigns by Newham Green Party. By making a donation, you confirm that you are eligible to make political donations in the UK, and that this donation is not made for or on behalf of any other person.
