ABOUT RIGHT DISHONOURABLE FRIEND

Tony Blair, Nick Clegg, Rishi Sunak – She’s hardly the first Southerner to represent a Northern constituency. What she lacks in political experience, she makes up for in… charm?

When nepotism hire of the year, Perdita Gresham-Booth, is appointed as MP for the fictional Lancashire town of Ardenton, she thinks that her wealth of social experience and the fact that she’s the former Home Secretary’s Daughter, are all the qualifications that she needs, how wrong she is.

‘She’s certainly driven’, ‘Yeah, driven me over the edge!’. Perdita’s eyes are set on the top of the political ladder, but when the needs of her constituents start to get in the way and she’s faced with the choice of helping a young, queer constituent who’s in desperate need of support or her own political ambitions, which will she choose?

Starring and written by Phoebe Batteson-Brown & Eoin McKenna, soon to be on BBC1.

WHY DONATE?

Brand new theatre company, Enough Helen Productions (Or EH?!, if you will) are partnering with Metamorph Theatre to co-produce political dark comedy, Right Dishonourable Friend.

The piece was born from one of our co-writer’s experiences growing up in Lancashire as a working class, closeted gay boy and the difficulties that he faced trying to navigate this environment, which unfortunately, are all too common for queer children growing up in the North of England

We are incredibly excited to be partnering with the charity Stonewall Housing, a wonderful organisation dedicated to supporting LGBTQIA+ people experiencing homelessness. We've produced a piece of darkly comical political theatre that takes aim at the North/South divide and explores homelessness within the young queer community in the North of England. Not only will this partnership mean we get to support an incredible organisation through promotion about their work in our marketing materials, we also have an ambassador advising on the development of the show to ensure the characters and situations are portrayed as authentically as possible. Stonewall Housing will be collecting donations for the charity after each performance.

As a General Election may be in the near future, we think this piece of theatre is more important than ever. We are all acutely aware that the current cost of living crisis is hitting so many individuals, businesses and industries, and the arts are suffering more than ever, which is why we are looking for any level of support that you feel able to make- no matter how small, any donation makes a huge difference. It means freelancers can be paid for their work and that an urgent and incredibly relevant piece of theatre is produced. If you are not in a position to donate but you feel a connection to our show, please do spread the word about it and come and see us!

DEVELOPMENT SO FAR

Here are some photos from our first ever readthrough of Right Dishonourable Friend at the Soho Theatre in October 2022. We had the support of some incredible creatives, as well as a Stonewall Housing representative to shape the show into what it now is!
