Schools within Central Schools Trust have won several Green Awards, so, when ex-pupil and champion fundraiser Mikey Akers, Mikey's Wish, wanted to stage another event, we knew it had to be something big, be something Green and be something that would highlight the plight of the Rainforest.
Pupils, staff and our supporters will cycle 1,900 km in just two weeks, to represent the breadth of the Amazon at its widest point, in order to raise funds to support learning.
Along the way, the children will learn about the wildlife, the effects of deforestation, and why it’s so important that we work to preserve this unique ecosystem.
The Amazon is the world’s largest tropical rainforest. Covering over 5.5 million square kilometres. In fact, it’s so big that the UK and Ireland would fit into it 17 times!
Running through the north of the rainforest is the Amazon River, stretching 6,840km, and is home to around 500 indigenous Amerindian tribes. It’s believed that about fifty of these tribes have never had contact with the outside world!
The Amazon has an incredibly rich ecosystem, with around 40,000 plant species, 1,300 bird species, 3,000 types of fish, 430 mammals and a whopping 2.5 million different insects. Wow!
Biking across The Rainforest will be a unique way to fundraise, raise awareness of the effects of climate change and involve our pupils by bringing learning to life in a fun way.

Ride Across the Rainforest is an exciting fundraising project between Central Schools Trust and Mikey's Wish, aimed at raising funds to give ALL children the best start possible to learn to read, develop speech and language, use Phonics and to develop emotionally.
Phonics allows young readers to develop their reading fluency. With practice, pupils' decoding skills become so automatic that they are able to concentrate on, and easily understand, the overall meaning of what they are reading.
Since leaving school, Mikey has worked tirelessly to fundraise to help other pupils. Now, working directly with pre-school children, he is an inspiration to others.

He was invited to speak in America for a second time this year and also visits schools and gives talks in the UK.
He has been invited to Number 10, had a personal tour of Parliament with his local MP, was a Batton Bearer for the Common Wealth Games and has won a host of awards for his charity work including Pride of Birmingham.
Please help him to help others, donate today, share our link and like our updates.
Many thanks, and dont forget to donate, share and use the hashtag #Rainforestride
