A bit about me
I am a drummer, composer and classroom music teacher from Scotland teacher.
I initially took lessons on piano but fell in love with the drums which eventually lead me to study music at the university of Aberdeen. During my time in Aberdeen studying music education I discovered jazz. This quickly turned into a passion of mine and I began to regularly performed around Aberdeen and Scotland in variety of different jazz ensembles. After graduating, I spent two years at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland completing a masters in jazz.
During lockdown I released my debut album Eclipse that was recorded as part of my masters, which I was very grateful to received the Peter Whittingham Award for Jazz Composition. I am now looking release my second album "Travels".
How will your money be spent?
There are many aspects of recording and releasing an album and the money raised will help me fund the recording / mixing / mastering of the album as well as help toward the production of CD's.
I am hoping to raise £2500 to help cover:
£1100 - Days in the studio
£900 - Mixing / Mastering
£500 - Go towards CD production (400 CD's)
If we reach the target, any extra funds will be put toward the CD production.
The Band
Matthew Kilner - Tenor Saxophone
I met Matthew whilst studying at Aberdeen University and discovered jazz together. I have played with Matthew for years and he has been a source of inspiration and guidance since I met him. Matthew is a creative and expressive player with a sound like Seamus Blake and his playing takes inspiration from the likes of Coltrane.
Ewan Hastie - Double Bass
When I first heard Ewan play, I couldn't believe a bass player could sound the way he did... and he was 17. Ewan's powerful and driving sound, along with his ability to solo like a horn player, is making him one of Scotland's most in demand bass players.
Pete Johnstone - Piano
Before I met Pete, he was a piano player I would always seek out to go listen to, his approach to improvising was always so fresh and exciting. I was given the opportunity to study with Pete when I was at the RCS and he really changed my approach to composition and constantly kept me on my toes!
