This will be used to sustain our business through an exceptionally difficult time for the music industry.
Since opening in 2017, we have loved being part of the Cambridge music scene and it is a privilege to provide services to the many talented musicians who come through our doors every week. Cambridge should have a thriving live music scene, and we try to do everything we can to support that - our studio offers space and equipment for bands, teachers, community projects, solo musicians and exam boards.
However, like so many other small businesses, Covid-19 has hit us really hard.
We have had to be closed for 15 months over the past two years and have suffered huge financial losses because of this.
We have been doing everything we can to keep the studio going. It took until November 2021 to see weekly bookings return to anywhere near pre-pandemic levels and, with the latest Covid developments, bookings have understandably fallen once again.
Some of the things that are great about Rhinocorn studio, like the size and central location, are also the things that make the running costs so high. Our rent, business rates and running costs alone are over £35,000 each year. This is before paying any staff salaries. These costs as well as other expenses are now becoming increasingly difficult to pay.
We are asking for your support to keep the studio going - the money you give will go directly towards paying our overheads and to help sustain the business until Spring 2022.
So far we have resisted asking for financial support from fellow musicians as we know how difficult the past two years have been for everyone, but we have exhausted all other options.
We want Rhinocorn Studio to survive and be ready for your rehearsals in 2022.
