We are raising funds to preserve Peruvian Shipibo Indigenous textiles through combining contemporary design with Traditional Art.
Haus of Artisans and Wildsuga are two london based brands Collaborating with the Maroti Shobo - an association of artisans composed of women specialising in embroidery and textile painting. We are raising funds to preserve Peruvian Shipibo Indigenous textiles through combining contemporary design with Traditional Art.
Shipibo textiles and designs are distinguished by bold symbols and geometric patterns representing their ancient understanding of the cosmos. These designs tell ancestral stories and serve to illustrate the sacred interconnectedness of all things. Textile and it’s design is an inherently spiritual affair in the Shipibo culture, so that each piece is imbued with ancient stories and personal experiences. Inspiration and ideas for their designs come to them through dreams and shamanic music. Traditionally, mothers drop a sacred plant extract into the eyes of their children,so that in due time the plant will develop in their dreams and a reveal the colors and patterns inherent to Shipibo culture.
The Maroti have a basic workshop, however they are lacking funds to maintain it. They are currently only selling small quantities of their works to tourists, and would like to get their work to a wider audience. We want to support this!
The money raised will be used towards investing in new sewing machines, sampling materials and developing a training program for the mothers and the younger generation to participate.
Eventually creating a school for the younger, dedicated to preserving the traditional arts and crafts.
HoA and Wildsuga have developed a sample product that respects the Shipibo art work and is applied into a contemporary style. (either tunic or use of the clutch bag)
We are passionate about collaborating with, reviving and preserving the Shipibo beautiful crafts, and want to produce and showcase this to the world.
We need Funds to make this happen, we need you..!
We want to share their talent and their story while helping them to thrive and keep their craft alive, come join us and be apart of preserving this beautiful culture and its traditions.
