Aim: We aim to raise a further £5K towards the project to Revitalise Queensmead Playground for our community in Shortlands. Please support us!

We would like to introduce ourselves as the Queensmead Playground Committee, comprised of the Friends of Bromley Town Parks, Shortlands Residents Association and local parents, who have come together to take on the challenge of enhancing our beloved playground.

We want to create a fun and imaginative play space, where children of all ages, regardless of abilities, can feel adventurous and captivated; develop social bonds and express themselves; have the freedom to explore and learn; improve their physical and mental wellbeing; develop the early skills that will shape their lives through excitement, enjoyment and fun!

By developing a sustainable, safe play space, which is vibrant and accessible, we aim to create a community hub for the families of Shortlands. Loneliness is one of our key concerns we wish to tackle, which can be particularly prevalent amongst people new to parenting and caring; and this can greatly affect emotional wellbeing. Our project will work with organisations targeting social inclusion, to break down the barriers and encourage an inviting, safe, enjoyable meeting place for parents and carers seeking friendship and social cohesion.

So far we have raised over £45,000 of our £100,000 target, with generous contributions from the London Borough of Bromley, Clarion Housing, the Shortlands Residents Association, The Friends of Bromley Town Parks, the Ravensbourne Valley Residents Association and Park Langley Residents Association.

We aspire to use this money to purchase:

  • sustainable and inclusive equipment that will cater for mixed abilities and age range
  • compliant safety surfacing
  • an accessible picnic area to create a meeting place for families and friends
  • natural play elements.

Together we will also host community activity days to spruce up equipment that is still serviceable, and create bug hotels to connect children to wildlife. While also running fundraising events to bring the community together for this quest.

Our next event is a community Fun Run at Queensmead. To find out more please visit:

We are committed to the challenge and determined to reach our goal.
