Restoring Mercedes-Benz DB 605 A 1 Aircraft Engine

Aim

To fully restore and then exhibit the only Daimler Benz DB 605 engine ground running in the UK and raise funds for the Royal British Legion.

What is important about this project?

Over the last three years our team of volunteers has been restoring a DB 605 A1 engine as used in the Messerschmitt ME 109 fighter aircraft, the nemesis of the Spitfire during the second world war.

This engine was shot down by a Spitfire in Belgium in 1942. It is important to preserve this history as we won the war and this engine demonstrates what we were up against in the ultimate battle of good versus evil.

What will we do with the funding?

Our team needs to source the parts to finish the engine and then to get it ground running. We then will be taking it to shows across the UK to raise money for the Royal British Legion. People will be able to see it up close, hear it, smell it and realise the history behind this rare engine.

With your help we can do this and make it the only ground running Daimler Benz running DB 605 in the UK.

The engine is being built with as many original parts as possible, but some original parts have to be replaced in order to make the engine run. Each person who helps us with a donation will receive an original part from the engine, a part of living history which was last used in 1942 during World War 2, the greatest struggle in the history of mankind.
