Hi, we're Jo and Claire and we're on a mission to open Congresbury's very own plastic-free self-serve grocery refill store.
We started our new business in June 2020 to bring sustainable shopping to Congresbury. If you haven’t tried us out yet, you can find out all about Re:Store Congresbury here: www.restorecongresbury.co.uk
Our temporary home:
Starting a new business during lockdown wasn’t really the plan and it hasn't been easy, although it has been really rewarding. Thanks to your support we have had a fantastic start with our home delivery and ‘click and collect’ service and it’s been lovely to serve people at the door of our temporary home inside Congar’s Cafe. Now we need to take the next step to open our new self-serve shop to the public.
Our fantastic little space is currently in the throes of being fixed up. With the ceiling and floor now shiny and new, work is progressing on the internal walls, our husbands are digging a trench for the installation of plumbing and we are both donning overalls ready for a lick of paint.
Progress on the shop:
But to get to the final stage we need funding to buy fixtures and fittings (gravity dispensers, scoop bins and so on), to make our shop as welcoming and fabulous as possible! We have set up this crowdfunder to give you a chance to support us.
In September 2020, our shop will move to a newly renovated space at the back of Congar’s Cafe where you can come in to browse and refill your own containers. With more space we will be able to continue to expand our range of affordable, high quality and as-local-as-possible products, including refillable cleaning liquids, food cupboard staples like rice, pasta, cereals and baking goods, plastic-free toiletries and gifts made by talented local suppliers.
As we get established we want to start doing lots more for our community to inspire, educate and involve people of all ages in caring for our environment: encouraging people to buy and use less plastic; fostering a culture of buying just what you need; supporting other local businesses and food producers; and helping at a grassroots level to promote sustainable principles in our village.
Our first day in the shop:
We both live in Congresbury, our children are growing up here, we are in this for the long-haul and we really want to build something that people in Congresbury will value.
With your donations we can get all the kit we need and support the village of Congresbury for years and years to come. And, in return for your generosity, we are offering a few rewards to say a huge thanks for helping us to get started.
