WHO AM I
Hi everybody,
My name is Zackary.
I run HOMEWARD BOUND an ongoing acapella folk and sea shanty session across East Sussex, which aims to build confidence, learn some nautical history through the knowledge of the people that attend....(which often is ranging from 19 to 90 in age) and tap into the cathartic well-beingness, through the primal howling of traditional sea shanty songs across south east England.

MY AIM
It is both my dream and intention to fully restore a beautiful boat that I bought for one English pound, bringing her back to seagoing glory.
It has been a project shared with the special humans (you know who you are) who have been a part of the community that come to the folk and sea shanty acapella sessions across Brighton and Hove and the South East.
A session i have been running weekly for five plus years for the purpose of creating a platform for people with low musical confidence ,and, also helping to share folk oral history. ..and lots has been achieved

However,
i am now in a situation where the marina is now only offering a PAY ANNUALLY option to renew my contract in MID JULY
and if i dont raise the money to pay for it (3.5k) I will lose the option to have it moored here and it will inevitably mean i will lose the boat/my future home and also fail in a great story.
Unfortunately, i don't have a contingency option,
AND I DONT WANT TO LOSE THE BOAT
BUT (lol)
i DO have a valuable service i can offer IN RETURN for any support towards my cause.
That is BRINGING a ROUSING and HEARTY and SILLY SAILOR SEA SHANTY EXPERIENCE to your occasions.
I just googled myself for the first time and i've got five stars on there and everything...waddaya know.
And i've never asked the session's crews for anything over this time, but now i gotta reach out and hope not to be judged too harshly
ANYWAY
Basically, It's CRUNCH TIME, (no understatement)
and i just don't want to lose the boat, or the chance to have a dose of stability about me.
No Victim vibes here though
I just talk straight up and cannae do anything else.

i might appear a bit nuts at times (which could be made in someway accountable by my neuro specialist on request)

HOW IS THIS GOING TO BENEFIT THE COMMUNITY
Homeward Bound Is a community motivated project I began four years ago, that uses a capella folk and sea shanty bawling across various venues across the south east, to gather people together.
Building confidence as well as my humble efforts to debunk the all too common "I'm not musical" narrative, and hopefully, improving mental wellbeing and self confidence.
Whilst picking up some nautical history along the way!
Through the sessions I have been witness to profound moments of humanity, young and old, and all sharing the same room and the same songs whether its in the form of a welsh hymn, rowdy songs of the sea or even the protests of passionate ramblers back on land. The positive and tangible effect I see happening to people through the workshops, gives me a huge sense of purpose, self worth and confidence.
I feel very lucky to have finally found a use for the neurodivergent energy and sensitivity I have at times felt cursed to possess!

Why wouldn't I want to share the experience with people who could really benefit from it?
There is so much to learn, not only for myself, but for anyone who gets involved, about all aspects of traditional boat building.
From boat maintenance to, carpentry and engineering, and just as importantly, working together with other people towards a main objective as well as a common goal, where positivity and problem solving skills are all useful
HOW WILL THE MONEY BE SPENT
- Engine reconditioning and possible replacement
- Rudder bracket replacement
- Sea coq's serviced
- Complete topside woodwork and gel coat sealing
- Two month boatyard costs to include the taking down and returning of the mast and boom as well as lift out into and from boatyard
- Complete rigging service
- All marine electrics and battery replacing ad rewiring
- Sails reconditioning
- safety equipment including radio and all RYA trusted and tested equipment
- safety railing around the boat
- general large sanding and varnishing work of which there is much
- All of the costs and labour from the specialists I will need to employ.
- ongoing mooring fees whilst working on the boat
- crisps and pop!

Time is of the essence with this project, there is just over a month duration for this and so if you are feeling to help the cause then please do act soon
