Resort is a not-for-profit arts organisation in the Cliftonville area of Margate. We provide studio and desk space, a gallery and a project space, all housed in the historic Pettman Building.
Resort currently provides affordable studio space for over forty people, including artists, designers, writers, musicians and photographers. As well as a place to work, Resort is an important creative hub for the local community in Cliftonville.
We have invested huge amounts of time, effort, love and money to get this far. We now need your help to protect our long-term future in this wonderful building. We need to raise £10,000 to pay for legal fees and court costs to secure our lease and to carry on doing what we have done for the last seven years.

Resort was founded in January 2013 by a small group of local artists. Our vision to was to build a creative community in Cliftonville, and offer studio space, specialist facilities and exhibition space at an affordable price. Since then we have grown into one of East Kent's largest arts organisations. Over the years we have supported hundreds of creative practices through workshops, professional development, exhibitions, events and residencies.

The Pettman building has been our home from the beginning. It has always been a special place to us. It has a rich history and stands as an impressive beacon in Cliftonville, one of the South East's most deprived areas. When we moved into the first floor of the building in January 2013 it was empty and freezing cold. There was only one electrical socket and you entered the space through a teacherously steep staircase. Despite this we immediately saw the potential to create something amazing. We set to work to remove the dead pigeons and broken toilets, replace the dangerous stairs (with help from Margate Arts Creativity Heritage), install electricity and build the first studios using reclaimed materials.

In 2014 we successfully applied for funding from Interreg to expand what we could offer. The Creative Hub at Resort launched on 28 March 2015 with the provision of new co-working spaces and studios for twelve creative individuals and micro businesses. The new spaces were taken up by artists, designers, photographers, writers, illustrators, architects and printmakers. This funding also enabled us to build fire corridors, install a fire alarm system and upgrade our toilets, wifi and electrics.

We now find ourselves at a crossroads. The Pettman Building was put on the property market in early 2018. Following months of uncertainty and negotiations through our solicitor we now face a court decision to determine our future. We have been advised that our lease is solid but the legal procedures we are having to go through are expensive. We need to raise £10,000 to cover solicitor's fees and court costs. We can't do this alone so this is where we need you!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our campaign. Any amount you donate, no matter how large or small, will help us to secure our future in the Pettman Building. Our members have donated artworks which you can buy, or of course you can simply make a donation. This is an all-or-nothing campaign so we will only receive the money if the full £10,000 is raised! So please spread this news far and wide now, share/link/post this page so everyone can be a part of securing Resort's future.

Huge thanks to Adam of Straight Up Grizzly Productions for making our amazing campaign video. Thank you to all the featured artists in the video and the all members who have donated artworks. And, most importantly, thank you to everyone who has supported us on our journey so far. We really couldn't do it without you!
Here is what we have on offer. Please click on the links in the Rewards column to the right to choose what you would like. We will be adding new artworks throughout the campaign so please check in again soon!
