Aim

Resonance Cycles is developing a biocomposite bike frame, crafted from flax fibre, timber veneers and bio-resin, help fund the first build.

I'm currently a cargo bike courier living and working in London,  and for years I've also been quietly obsessed with an idea: .a bike frame built from a combination of materials that brings together what riders already love. Steel and titanium are prized for a reason — that ride feel, that quality, is real. Carbon earned its place through stiffness and weight savings. What I'm developing — flax fibre, timber veneer, bio-resin — combines those qualities in one frame: the stiffness and weight profile of carbon, with the ride feel of steel and titanium

Years ago in South Africa, I designed and hand-built a highly engineered, CNC-machined timber fixed-gear frame that went viral online — but it never became a real product. The bottleneck wasn't the idea, it was access: without my own CNC machine or the resources around me, the production process itself was too limiting to scale beyond one-off builds. I moved to the UK specifically to solve that problem: to develop a process that's genuinely repeatable and buildable, not dependent on machinery I don't have access to — and, crucially, one where every tube, every geometry, and the finish itself can be tailored to the individual rider. It's not just a new material, it's a fully custom, adaptable building process from the ground up.

That's the process behind Resonance Cycles: I use the same layup, moulding, and bonding techniques that carbon frames are built with — but with flax fibre, timber veneer, and bio-resin in place of carbon. Over the past year I've worked through the engineering in detail — the layup stack, the resin transfer moulding process, and the finishing — to the point where the design exists in full, but not yet as a complete, rideable, beautiful bicycle frame.

I've been given an amazing opportunity to build a bike with the frame set to be shown at BESPOKED DRESDEN, the worlds biggest hand made bike show in September. It's a genuinely rare opportunity to put this in front of the people who matter in independent frame building. But it means I need to fund the tooling and materials for that first complete frame now — and as a self-employed courier, that's the gap between the idea and an actual bike existing.

Every pound raised here goes directly towards materials (flax fibre, timber veneer, bio-resin) and the tooling needed to build frame one — the first physical proof that this approach works. If you back this, you're not funding a concept — you're funding the exact thing that turns years of R&D into a bike you could ride, enjoy, and carve a canyon road with.

Happy to go into more technical detail on the engineering and materials process for anyone interested — just ask in the comments or message me directly.
