Help Solas Eige rescue the historic church on the isle of Eigg from years of neglect: it is now up for sale and this is our chance to repair, upgrade and transform it for the community on Eigg and its visitors to enjoy it for years to come.
Solas Eige - which means the "Light of Eigg" in Scottish Gaelic - was set up as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation to do just that.
Acquiring the church as a community building is a unique opportunity to save it from further decay and use it to share the fantastic achievements of our island community buy-out, including our journey towards Net Zero to inspire other communities. It is an opportunity to keep it as a place for services and celebrations in the community and also to transform it as a venue for the arts and climate education. We also want it to provide a safe and secure place for our extensive Eigg archive to make it easily accessible for everyone.
We have identified how we can buy the buildign and how to rescue it from decline, but we need a little help on the way!
The Scottish Land Fund can supply 95% of our acquisition costs, but we are expected to contribute the remaining 5% or £6000 as part of our funding application. This sum represents a percentage of the building 's value, the feasibility study funding we already received, the conveyancing costs, insurance and pre-planning cost.
With your help, we can do it!
