Exmoor Search & Rescue Team needs to equip our team members with new waterproof jackets and over-trousers.

by Derrick Reid in South Molton, Devon, United Kingdom

Recently we were called to assist the police to look for a vulnerable person on our patch. We were tasked to search boggy ground in heavy rain with darkness approaching. This is not unusual for us as we have the right equipment and skills to operate effectively in these conditions. Several hours searching in the cold and wet (in rain that really soaks through) resulted in a positive outcome with the missing person found.

Replacement Waterproofs. Why?

This volunteer Mountain Rescue team is permanently on call and expected to operate in all weathers, day and night. Successful missions need the right skills and the right equipment. Our team members are provided with the necessary clothing and equipment to allow them to operate safely in all weathers. However, harsh conditions and heavy workload take their toll and our current waterproofs are nearing end of life. We class waterproofs as PPE and are vital for the protection of our team members.

Solution

A leading manufacturer has teamed up with the UK Mountain Rescue organisations to design and produce garments aimed specifically with our needs in mind. The timing of our waterproof replacement project is extremely fortunate to coincide with first phase of production of this new range of garments. Our in-house equipment specialist has undertaken a market review and deemed these waterproofs to offer the ideal solution to our needs and value for money.

How Much Are We Aiming To Raise?

The Team is looking to raise the last £16,000 to equip each of our 40 team members with waterproof jackets and trousers.

Every Penny Counts

As a charity, we receive no Government funding and it costs approximately £35-40,000 a year to keep the Team operational. Vehicles and large projects require additional and specific funding. We appreciate that the ongoing financial uncertainty is affecting everyone, which is why we’re so grateful for any and all support we receive; every penny really does count. Thank you.
