• ABOUT THE 'HILL' 

Benwell Hill Cricket club was formed in 1883 and has been a mainstay of local cricket in the West End of Newcastle since that date. With generations of many families having been members we are very much a hub for cricket, Squash, tennis & socialising in the local community as a Community Amateur Sports Club & Community Interest Company. We are in the privileged position of having Scotland captain & ICC Associate Cricketer of the Decade Kyle Coetzer as our Director of Cricket.

Over the years we have maintained the provision of Cricket for the local community of all ages & backgrounds which has provided opportunities for many players to represent the league and county or to simply enjoy playing the sport they love. We were founding members of the North East Premier League. The first, second and third eleven’s all continue to play in the Premier League. The third eleven are also members of the West Tyne Cricket League and the Northumberland and Tyneside Cricket League. The Ladies’ team is a member of the Northumberland Women’s Cricket League. Benwell Hill runs junior teams at Under 19, Under 15, Under 13, Under 11 & Under 9 levels for both boys and girls. We also run a hugely successful squash section who have a team that play in Division 1 of the Northumbria Squash League & have a thriving social membership

The culprit!!! 

The past year has been challenging in all aspects due to COVID resulting in a significant reduction in our income whilst the cost of property maintenance continues. 

 Our major aim for 2021 is to complete the replacement of the downstairs lounge flat roof which is over 45 years old & showing major signs of deterioration. By completing this project it will enable us to continue to provide a first class social facility for the club members, guests & the local community both in the short & long term  thus in part securing the future of club for use by generations to come 

COMMUNITY BENEFITS

We, as an inclusive club, are always looking to attract new members from both within & outside our local community and we have identified the comfortable up to date welcoming Lounge & bar facilities along with more successful outside events as one of benefits of becoming a member of Benwell Hill Cricket Club. It will also ensure that we are able to continue to offer the use of the lounge to groups & sporting bodies who currently use the facilities such as the West End branch of the Royal British Legion, Northumberland Association of cricket officials, Northumberland Cricket Board, Funeral Directors & for Charitable events.

COMPLETING THE PROJECT 

The majority of the work will be completed by a suitably qualified company that we have engaged however we do have a team of  willing volunteers in place to assist with help if required.
