The much loved 5-way swing in the playground in Lyttelton is broken beyond repair. Please donate towards a new, even better replacement!
About the Friends Group
Lyttelton is the largest park and play area in Hampstead Garden Suburb. The Friends of Lyttelton group was set up to work with London Borough of Barnet to improve the space for park users and for wildlife - creating a hub of both community activity and biodiversity.
The Friends Group has over 150 members, and is lead by a committee representing key stakeholders and local residents and park users.
Replacing the swing
The playground at Lyttelton is much loved by kids and families from the local area and beyond, with a range of play equipment for all ages.
Sadly, the five way swing - a particular favourite of older kids and those with additional needs (though less loved by the backs of parents trying to spin them "rocket fast") - broke beyond repair. Whilst Barnet are keen to replace it, given their increasing financial duress, they do not have the budget available and as such the swing will remain out of action.
Because the five way swing has experienced multiple failures, the council now instead installs a 3 way swing, which also features a seat for children who require extra support. This new and improved, multi-user, roundabout swing, will cost £8,500 to purchase and install. The Friends group have already committed £2,500 of funds held by them towards this, which has been generously matched by a grant from the HGS Residents' Association. This crowdfunder seeks to raise the remaining £3,500 from park users, local residents, organisations and businesses.
Thanking all our donors
Once the funds are raised in full, Barnet will place the order for the new swing and be in charge of its ongoing maintenance.
All donors will have the opportunity to be recognised on a plaque to be installed by the new swing. Should the full required funds not be raised, or the project not go ahead, you will be contacted to offer a refund of funds pledged.
