We're still collecting donations
On the 2nd November 2024 we'd raised £15,811 with 145 supporters in 84 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

Our aim is to reduce the pollution that the 2-stroke engine on our club rib puts out into the lakes & seas, by replacing it with a 4-stroke.

On the 2nd November 2024 we'd raised £15,811 with 145 supporters in 84 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
In the event that we manage to raise additional money, we will put this to use for a stainless steel ladder to be fitted to the boat, to make it more accessible for all divers to climb back in.
Also an auxiliary battery for safety at sea.
We are a BSAC Sub Aqua Club based in Burnley & East Lancashire. The club has been in existence since 1960, and has a diverse range of club divers from the ages of 13 up to their mid 70's. We dive all year round, & use the boat during fair weather from Spring until Autumn.
We applied for a grant from Sport England to replace the heavily polluting 2-Stroke engine; they have awarded us matched funding of £7770, as long as we raise £7770 ourselves via the crowdfunding platform.
Read the Community Impact below, to see why we started.
The money will be spent on replacing our heavily polluting 2-stroke engine with an efficient 4-stroke engine, along with the associated cables & gauges required for the new engine.

Our club engine is 150 horsepower 2-stroke which runs for a few hours whilst in use.
As divers we are acutely aware of the environment that we are in, & whilst we were aware a 2-stroke engine was polluting, it’s not until we researched more into the environmental impact, that it lead us to feel duty bound to take action.
By changing to a 4 Stroke engine this benefits the environment by reducing harmful emissions by up to 90%, as well as being up to 50% more fuel efficient. There is also a reduction in noise, as a 4 Stroke engine is far more quiet in operation.

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
