In September 2025, Barry Athletic Sports Club was the victim of burglary and criminal damage. South Wales Police continue the investigation.

At the time of the break-in the clubhouse was being run by Barry Athletic Cricket Club, who had cash stolen and property damaged. The cricket club were not the only victims however as Barry Athletic Football Club took over the clubhouse, as usual, later that month. The damage caused has therefore affected both clubs, who are volunteer run and help promote sport and well-being in Barry, and further afield. The football club in particular providing coaching and competitive games for hundred of boys and girls in the local community.

Repairs have been made in the short term, but the damage and stress remain.

As you can imagine, grassroots clubs like ours have to make every penny count in order to keep afloat in these times of great expense.  All monies that these not-for-profit volunteer-run clubs make is plowed back into their playing facilities and sports operations.

The ramifications of the break-in are that we are missing hundreds of pounds of cash (thankfully we had recently paid our cash takings into the bank), have had safes stolen or broken, extensive damage to our bar, cellar and exterior wall. The costs of repairs, loss, and replacing equipment could run to nearly £1,000.

Insurance won't cover the losses, or repairs. The clubs have committed to repair, and improve the facilities, to ensure that this does not happen again. But we need your help.

How can you help?

Donate - Any pledge that you can make to help us raise funds to cover our costs and losses would be hugely appreciated. Just a few pounds will help us get closer to our goal.

Spread the word - We need support from as many people as possible. The more people that donate the less we need from each donation. So please share this page and any social media posts you see about our fundraising.

Should we meet our fundraising targets, any additional funds will be invested into the security of our site and the improvement of our facilities.

Who are we?

Barry Athletic Cricket Club are the premier cricket club in Barry, South Wales. Established in 1890 we have played cricket on the famous Barry Island since 1910. The club won the Welsh Cup in 1985, and have a stellar history of characters and stories. Our club plays recreational cricket, with senior sides playing competitively in the South East Wales Cricket League, and has a thriving junior section across all the main age groups. There are plans to resurrect the Ladies team in the immediate future.

Barry Athletic Football Club were formed in 1946 as Cadoxton Albion Football Club. With the horrors of the Second World War fresh in people’s minds and rationing still in place in South Wales, the club was created by old friends to be able to socialise and play together regularly. Nearly 80 years later the club provide opportunities for local people to keep active in the community. We are a family club managed by volunteers. All of our coaches and committee members are DBS checked by The Football Association of Wales.
