Totally Leighton Buzzard (previously known as Totally Locally Leighton Buzzard) need your help in covering our initial costs for starting a repair cafe locally. A recent survey indicates 98% of residents like the idea.
We all throw away a vast amount of stuff that has little wrong with it and could be given a new lease of life with a simple repair. There is also a huge wealth of skills across the community that it's important to share, pass on and learn from.
That's why a group of Leighton Buzzard residents are motivated to set up a Repair Cafe based on the principles of the repair cafe movement which has been running successfully internationally and in UK since the idea was established in Holland in 2009 by Martine Postma. Locally there are repair cafes in Bedford, Tring, Aston Clinton, Berkhamstead but not yet in Leighton Buzzard. We want to change that.
For those who have never been to a repair cafe, each session normally happens monthly for 3 to 4 hours when skilled volunteers will repair electrical appliances, clothing, housewares, toys etc. for free/small donation. Most household items that are broken (and which you can manage to carry on your own) are welcome and have a good chance of getting repaired.
We're all volunteers but the project does have some costs, like materials, venue hire, public liability insurance, etc. Whether you're concerned about climate change or just want to ensure that the Leighton Buzzard Repair Cafe is a success because you love the concept of a repair cafe on your doorstep, please consider a donation that can help us cover some of these expenses. With your collective help we look forward to starting the Repair Cafe in the Spring 2023. Let's do it Leighton Buzzard!
