Restore The Sir John De Graeme memorial fountain that has fallen on bad times and Vandalism
In 1912 a monumental fountain was built to commemorate the fallen Knight Sir John De Graeme who was Sir William Wallace's Close friend and most loyal knight who died at the battle of falkirk near where the fountain stands
Prominent industrialist Robert dollar was persuaded to pay for the monuments construction after it was built which he happily did
Over the next 50 years it would offer refreshing water to the bairns of Grahamston
Sadly for the last 30 years it has fallen on bad times its stone steps reduced to piece's and its basin clogged with muck and its copper cup torn from its chain its descriptive panels faded and broken
Recently it has been the focus of vandalism with itscregal lion hauled from its plinth and seriously damaging its crown base chest and tongue as well as being targeted by graffiti
But we have a chance to make it and the area around it truly wonderful
We have sought out quotes from the local Monument specialist Quality Masonry who we would seek to use and will be working With the Local authority to restore the fountain and redevelop the surrounding area to a more fitting memorial to the historic Knight
