Repair Generations is a collective of designers, makers and menders that run workshops to connect people in the community to repair our clothes.
We demonstrate a range of creative techniques to repair and mend our clothes to extend their life and keep them out of landfill. Learning and sharing skills is at the heart of the project and is an opportunity for local communities and individuals to take part, connect and participate in something worthwhile. Come and join our community and be part of the repair movement to support more sustainable fashion.
The fashion and textile industries are responsible for increasing environmental damage and waste. Clothing is responsible for large carbon emissions at all stages of the production, distribution and consumption process. Societies need to find more sustainable relationships to the clothes we wear and drastically reduce the amount we buy.
The waste charity WRAP raise awareness of the value of clothes and encourage people to make the most of the clothes they already have. They found that one of the most significant things you can do is increase the active life of our clothes. So each time we keep an item of clothing in use for longer it helps save many tonnes of clothing from going into landfill. Thats where repair comes in.
By getting involved in the repair movement you can save at least one garment in your wardrobe that needs to be repaired from going into landfill. Sign up for one of our rewards and become part of the repair movement to keep your clothes in use and wearable for longer and extend its life.
Repair generations is a collective of people passionate about the power of using craft skills and repair techniques to make positive change.
We are run as a not for profit but we still have costs to cover. Our focus is to make an impact in our local community, raise awareness of the issues around sustainable fashion and promote accessible ways people can become involved themselves in repairing and mentioning their own clothes to make their wardrobe more sustainable. One of the ways we can cover our costs is to crowdfund so we can spend the money we raise on facilitating more workshops and sharing the repair skills needed to keep our most loved items of clothing in use for longer.
We will be running a range of different workshops in our local community around Falmouth, Redruth and Penryn. Each workshop will be run by a range of different facilitators and demonstrate a different skill and repair technique such as Wool darning, Needle felt, Sashiko/Boro or Embroidery stitch. Workshop attendees will be encouraged to bring an item of clothing that needs repairing and encouraged to learn the skills to repair the item themselves to return it to a wearable condition. All materials will be provided free of charge with the money raised from this campaign. The workshops will last between 2-3 hours and people are encouraged to drop-in for as little or as long as required to complete their repair with instruction from our team of facilitators and skilled volunteers.
