Aim

We're giving people who collect waste for a living a fair income, while creating markets where plastic waste can reprocessed and reused.

Repa connects individuals and businesses with the people who collect and sort plastic waste for a living. Working with local entrepreneurs, mobile technology, a network of community agents and trusted transporters, we support fair, sustainable and circular markets for waste plastic in countries where plastic pollution is overwhelming communities.

  • 500+ waste pickers getting a fair income, 80% of these are women
  • 9+ tonnes of waste removed from environment each month
  • average income increases from $12 to $37 per month
  • each woman supports 5-10 people in her family group so a higher income for her means her children and older relatives can spend less time working

Who are waste pickers?

Waste collectors are people who collect and sort waste materials like plastic, cardboard and metals in dangerous conditions on landfill sites and dumps. We don't see many of these people in the global north, as we waste collection and recycling systems provided by local government.

We're supporting a market for waste that rewards the people who do the hard work of collecting and sorting plastic that's been dumped in public spaces and landfills, in countries where municipal waste management can’t cope.
