Our library of things and repair cafe enables the community to connect by sharing skills, saving money and helping the environment!
RE:MAKE Newport is Wales' first repair and reuse hub on a high street. We are a library of things; where people can come and borrow items at very low cost instead of having to buy them, aiming to reduce the amount of items we all own, addressing the cost of living crisis and climate emergency.
People can borrow items like camping & gardening equipment, power tools, garden games & carpet cleaners, giving people affordable access to experiences and equipment they may not have been able to use otherwise.
"Being able to hire a tent to take our young daughter camping last year was such an amazing experience. We could not afford to buy a 6 man tent of our own."

RE:MAKE is also a repair café, boasting an incredible team of over 20 volunteers who want to share their skills with the community of South Wales by fixing peoples stuff - they've fixed over 1300 items to date! They teach people how to fix their own stuff too. Reducing waste, sharing skills and building community with each other and the public.
"It's been an amazing change to my mindset to not write off broken things that are outside my limited DIY skills!"

More than 1500 items have been borrowed since we launched in October 2021, saving people over £100k by borrowing instead of buying items new.
Our community have made a wish list that includes items such as camping equipment, gardening tools, DofE kits, Binoculars and nature spotting kits. The money raised from the Save the Wild Isles scheme would enable the community of Newport to have an affordable and accessible way of borrowing the kit required to connect more with nature and each other.
We all know what a positive benefit getting outside can have on our mental health, but for some living in the city in areas of deprivation creates barriers to accessing nature. Not being able to afford the equipment required to have those experiences can be one of the biggest barriers. We aim to reduce that barrier by offering low or no-cost services and making borrowing and repairing as easy as popping out for a loaf of bread.
