Aim

The flash flood in the Nepal has been utterly devasting. Help us get the EcoHimal team into the field to help the post-rescue relief effort.

On August 26th a horrifying flash flood hit the Nepal-Tibet border district of Rasuwa. Over 400 people have died with thousands more still missing. This is the fast violence of the climate crisis, it is devastating.

The emergency rescue effort is ongoing, but will very soon be over. At that point, the communities affected will be incredibly vulnerable. We need to step up now to ensure they get the support they will need in the weeks and months ahead.

Our long-term NGO partner in Nepal, EcoHimal, have been in touch. They are preparing a team to travel to sites where the flood has impacted to support the post-rescue relief effort. It is an essential mission. They need our support.

Please donate as soon as possible.

*IMPORTANT* - When you click on DONATE you will be taken to a page that asks you for a tip - there is a slider, the default percentage is high, the slider lets you take it down to 10%, but if you want to tip a lower amount, look for 'CUSTOM TIP' written in small print just above the slider, click there and enter a tip amount you are comfortable with.

After you have donated you will be asked if you want to make a monthly donation to this work, please do consider this, and you'll be asked to opt in to receive emails from us. If you do not want to receive emails, please just navigate away.

These hard sell tactics are designed by Crowdfunder not us, apologies in advance, please don't let them put you off making a donation.

EcoHimal's mission has two aims:

1. The immediate priority is to deliver and distribute essential supplies to the people and communities who have lost everything.

2. Simultaneously, EcoHimal will conduct a needs assessment to gain the vital information needed to formulate 'build back better' plans in the communities affected.

The insights gathered will help to ensure that as the communities recover, they will be more resilient and better adapted to climate change.

Over the last two decades we have supported and watched, in awe, the work EcoHimal have done to help communities recover from the all too frequent disasters - major landslides, earthquakes, COVID-19, political upheaval - that have hit Nepal.

We have full confidence in EcoHimal's ability, they are very well qualified to do this work.

What your donation will fund

This will not be a simple or inexpensive mission. It takes great courage to enter into an area that has suffered such a devastating event.

It is very hard to calculate how much EcoHimal's mission will cost. We do not know how inflated fuel, food, accommodation prices will become. We also do not yet know how long the team will be in the field, or whether they will to visit several times.

With this in mind, we are initially aiming to raise 1 million Nepalese rupees (~£4,820).

Our aim is to ensure that EcoHimal can focus on the work they need to do. We don't want them to be worrying about how they will cover all of their costs.

Therefore, the sooner you can make your donation the better.

Your donations will contribute towards the following anticipated costs:

  • Vehicle hire, fuel and drivers.
  • Accommodation on the journey to, from, and within the affected areas.
  • Basic daily subsistence costs for the EcoHimal team.
  • Essential supplies for affected communities.
  • A full needs assessment and report to aid long term resilience and recovery planning.

Any unspent funds will be ringfenced and spent on the climate change adaptation projects The Glacier Trust enables in rural Nepal.

Please donate as soon as possible, and please spread the word.

Thank you,

Dr. Morgan Phillips
