Our Club is growing - and we need facilities to match
The bowls club was established by the local community in 1988 and was funded through loans and grants. The club has a social and community purpose at its heart.
The club attracts bowlers from a large geographic area, bowlers are willing to travel to experience the idyllic rural surroundings of the club.
Barnack Bowls Club is a progressive club offering social, friendly and competitive outdoor green bowling. We have an increasing membership, and we are seeing an increase in the participation in the sport at Barnack. Through our leadership we are changing the perception of the sport. This is more than just about rejuvenating the green its about creating a place that people can meet socially, keep active and participate in a sport for life.
By rejuvenating the green it will:
- Support the increase in participation – our club has increased in size over the last year going against the trend.
- Change the perceptions - a modern playing area will enhance the bowling experience and perception of bowls
- Benefit the wider community - enhance the experience from affiliated groups to the club
- Sustainable future - ensuring that we are able to adapt to the changing weather patterns
By supporting this project, you are not only helping us rejuvenate our green — you are also contributing to a lasting community impact, in line with Sport England’s mission to keep people active and healthy.
What are our plans
Overall our rejuvenation plan will cost £6,185 of which we have been offered £3,093 from Sport England. A stipulation of the award is that Crowdfunding is required for the remaining 50%, we need your support to make it happen.
The rejuvenation project will significantly improve the perimeter of the green, provide an effective watering system, and give us additional equipment to minimise damage to the green.
Perimeter Improvements
The current perimeter protection was installed 7 years ago, and the protection matting was secondhand from the local indoor bowling club. It is shrinking and falling apart and needs replacing. The estimated cost is £3,216.

Effective Watering
We need to improve our green sprinkler system by replacing 4 sprinkler heads with more efficient and effective ones. Our existing heads are not adjustable and water is wasted. We need to play our part in minimising water use and and recognise that with the changing climate we may have to water more frequently. The estimated cost of 4 new sprinkler heads is £2,054.
Collect and Protect
We have insufficient bowls collectors to meet the demands of the bowlers, an additional 6 are required. The green needs protection and the purchase of protection mats for use by the members, we require 8 to ensure our green is adequately protected. The total cost of these items is £915.
Sport England - Movement Fund
Sport England have awarded us £3,093 towards the the cost of the project, but we need to raise a further £3,093 from a minimum of 25 unique supporters to receive it.

How you can play your part?
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success! If you are looking to donate a smaller amount, then please click on the donate now button! One of the criteria is that we need to meet is 25 unique supporters.
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages, family, friends, work colleagues and businesses, and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. this could be a voucher, experience or product. We will give you a shout out on our social media channels!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. You can even set up your own page, it only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea! Why not run a few coffee mornings, games evenings, we have loads of ideas.
