URGENT APPEAL: Help Us Keep Community Wellness Open This Winter

“I have been a GP for twenty-eight years, and the Community Wellness project has been the single most transformational service offered to my patients in all my time in practice. “

Dr Bob Tanner, GP, Llangollen

-----

This crowdfunder was meant to be a more hopeful campaign: a chance to raise funds so we could reimagine a National Healing Service and begin Community Wellness' next chapter of becoming a more sustainable organisation long-term. This includes a unique partnership with a National Charity, in a UNESCO World Heritage Site in North Wales that will lay the foundations for a flagship, pioneering legacy project: an emergent model of healthcare rooted in community, place and nature.

Unfortunately our pilot programme funding has now come to an end, and we have been unable to secure additional funds until the partnership with Canal & Riverside Trust officially begins next spring 2026. This means we face having to close our doors over the winter months, cutting off support to nearly 200 active participants with new members registering every week.

What was meant to be a long-term fundraising effort has now become an urgent winter appeal.

Winter is the time our community needs us the most. It is when crises deepen, isolation increases, mental health worsens, and people who are already struggling are pushed to breaking point.

Why We Exist (and Why We Must Stay Open)

Community Wellness was born from the recognition that our healthcare system is collapsing under pressure, leaving people with prescriptions and labels but rarely with true healing. We create safe, relational, non-clinical spaces where people find connection, purpose and recovery. 91% of our participants report improved wellbeing, many describing it as life-changing and life-saving.

“Community Wellness gave me a sense of belonging and purpose and provided me with a toolkit for living. It saved my life.” Participant

Community Wellness was founded by a local GP and our team is made up of a wonderful group of purpose driven individuals with a shared passion and vision. This includes holistic and trauma-informed GPs, wellbeing practitioners, and community champions, navigators and facilitators with a diverse range of lived, living and learned experiences. We believe in collaboration, co-creation, and that together we are greater. This is a regenerative model: people who were once in crisis often go on to become champions and facilitators themselves.

Our Community Wellness model for health, wellbeing and recovery is evidence based and has been developed over the last decade in response to the needs of the community. It has won innovation awards, and is gaining interest from local and national GPs. It is the provision of choice for many of our community members seeking immediate, meaningful support, and we receive referrals from GPs, mental health services, local councils and through word of mouth. Despite this, we receive no statutory funding, and have been entirely reliant on small grants and donations.

Why We Need Urgent Bridge Funding

We are now at a pivotal moment. We are in the process of finalising a unique partnership with the Canal & River Trust which will officially begin in Spring/Summer next year.

But we will have to close our doors over the winter months without immediate bridge funding cutting off support to nearly 200 active participants and dozens more who register every week.

This winter, we need to:

  • keep weekly delivery programmes running
  • strengthen our organisational foundations
  • support individuals in crisis
  • maintain our wonderful practitioner team
  • continue evaluating our impact
  • develop sustainable revenue-generating work

£10,000 allows our team to operate for one month, delivering weekly community programmes, tailored group support, and one-to-one sessions for people in crisis.

Our 50.50.50 Ask

We are aiming to raise £150,000 in total. To move beyond survivability and keeping our doors open, we would love to be able to raise a further £100,000. This helps support Community Wellness evolve into a non-profit business that moves away from a reliance on grants and donations, and towards long term sustainability.

The first £50,000: Keep Our Doors Open This Winter

This would cover core delivery costs until Spring/Summer 2026. This funding makes sure no one is turned away and continues to provide employment to a number of freelance practitioners and facilitators in our team.

The next £50,000: Strengthen Our Team

To grow sustainably, we urgently need to invest in these roles which are essential for safeguarding staff wellbeing and managing our expanding impact.

  • Operations and finance management
  • Project management
  • Fundraising and business development
  • Administration, legal and marketing support

The final £50,000: Build a Sustainable Future

This final phase transforms Community Wellness into a stable, long-term not-for-profit business capable of serving thousands more in the years ahead. This enables us to grow beyond reliance on grants and donations by developing:

  • Bespoke corporate wellness programmes
  • Bespoke training and healing opportunities for healthcare, education and corporate employees
  • New revenue streams aligned with our mission to see a Community Wellness in every village, town and city - providing immediate support to individuals and communities

While our impact is proven, like many small social enterprises we face a precarious moment. Our transformative community work is at risk due to short-term funding.
