The beautiful Amba House, that is home to The Sundial Kitchen, is an iconic building which adds beauty and heart to Totterdown. Maintaining a building like this is very costly, but we feel that it is really important to preserve original stained glass windows, to keep the building in the state it deserves to be.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of issues that need fixing (the roof, windows and render on the side of the building) and although we could more cheaply replace the windows with plain glass, we really think that preserving the original windows is important for the community, and Bristol as a whole.
To repair and double glaze the windows, each one needs to be taken out and replaced with plain glass (so that we can continue to operate the business whilst the repairs are taking place), and then each window will be individually double glazed, preserving the stained glass inside, and put back into the building one by one. The wooden frames also will all be replaced as they are rotting.
As you can imagine, this is a really costly process, and we are hoping that people may want to donate a small amount to help it along, so we can keep this building looking beautiful (and being more energy efficient) for many years to come.
Thank you,
From Pete and Lucy (Owners of Amba House), and Chloë, Paul and the Sundial Team.
