Who are we?

Papplewick and Linby is a family club, a club at the centre of the local community, and we are dedicated to developing young cricketing talent — many of our best (and oldest) players have been at the club since childhood. We welcome players of all ages and abilities, and enjoy some of the best facilities in the area and a committee dedicated to improving the club. With the club currently enjoying one of its most successful periods across all sides, both senior and junior, it is vital that we continue to offer top class and safe facilities for all to use.

Community impact

The Cricket Club is in the heart of the communuity and welcomes people, young and old from not just our community, but those surrounding communities too.  We have a ever growing junior section with more than 100 children joining us on a Friday evening to improve their skills.  As well as 3 Saturday sides, a Sunday side, a wonderful junior section, we are also now encouraging more girls to take part and have started our first ever girls side.  The club is very much a family orientated club and a big part of the local community and beyond.

Why are we crowdfunding?

In short, the net facility at the club is no longer fit for purpose and so we have had to take the decision to close them to all members and opposition teams until they are replaced. Having been in place for over 10 years in their current state, they have seen thousands of hours of use across all age and levels, providing a top quality, but more importantly safe facility for cricketers to hone their skills, some of those cricketers even progressing into the professional game.

Over that period, the netting has seen running repairs in order to keep the nets safe for all who have used them, but the time has now come where the elements over that same period have weakened the netting to a point where it has become fragile and liable to breakages that have caused them to become dangerous. This danger puts those both inside and outside of the nets at risk, as well as parked cars in the club car park. It is important that as a club we protect people's property as much as we do those inside and outside of the nets while they are in use, and so it is vital that we get them replaced immediately.

We have managed to secure a new netting system that can be fitted in the next few weeks through the clubs extended network, but are in desperate need of funds to help us complete the required work. The new system we have decided on not only offers a higher level of protection for those both within and outside of the nets, but is also a lot more hard wearing than the old system, such is the advancement of the products used in fixed lane netting, and we expect them to last an equal, if not a longer period of time than the current system has been in place.

We are appreciative of the fact that everyone is facing an increase in costs at the moment, and don't ask this of you lightly, but hope that the understanding of what the club offers to everyone who has, does, or will go on to use this facility means that you will be able to help us get towards our target of getting these nets installed as soon as possible. This will ensure that we can continue to provide top class, safe facilities for all who visit our wonderful club both now and in the future, helping all improve their game, ensuring the continued success of our great club.

How we’ll spend the money raised

We need to raise money to help with the cost of replacing these nets.  The cost is approximately £10,000.  The money raised will be used solely on the net project.

How you can play your part

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!

4. Create a fundraiser of your own. Use the button on our page to get started. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
